Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Certificates are generated by projects
that remove additional greenhouse gas emissions.

How to Avoid Greenwashing
Greenwashing happens when companies mislead consumers with false claims about their environmental efforts, often related to carbon offsetting.

To identify and avoid greenwashing, focus on projects that meet IPCC and European Union guidelines. Only carbon emissions that are unavoidable should be offset, and offsets must come from certified carbon removal projects—those actively removing COâ‚‚ from the atmosphere. Reduction or avoidance alone no longer qualifies.

Look for projects with certifications proving "additionality" (removing COâ‚‚ beyond what would occur naturally), such as reforestation or carbon capture. High-quality projects must also demonstrate biodiversity, long-term permanence, robust ISO-14064 carbon accounting, and stakeholder impact management.
IPCC - approved carbon projects
can be identified by the additionality
of their carbon removal.
